There are several methods of counting cards. These can be filtered into two groups, the true count, and the running count. True counts require an acurate estimate of the remaining cards in the deck and a lot of division. Let's go ahead and forget about true counts.

The second is the running count, also called the unbalanced count. It assigns a value to each card that you add or subtract to your running total. Basically, the higher your running count, the more that the odds are in your favor.

THE ONLY WAY TO BEAT THE HOUSE IS TO COUNT AND HAVE A PLAYING STRATEGY!

Answer:
There are two components.

- First is “the play″ which is playing your cards according to the highest expected value of the outcome. For instance consider the player has a pair of eights against a dealer 7. It is obvious that splitting the cards will take you from one hand that’s losing to two hands that are both apt to win. Now consider the pair of 8's against a dealer 10. If you split the hand you will go from one hand that’s likely to lose to two hands that are both likely to lose. Why would you do that? The reason is that statistical analysis says you will lose less money in the long run. It's not possible to see this result without going through the thousands of possible outcomes. It was done in the 1950's on adding machines, but the invention of the personal aided the calculation.

- The second part is “the count” which is a name for a variety of schemes to estimate if the remaining cards are rich in tens (and aces). There are a number of schemes (hi-lo is the most straightforward). A deck whose remaining cards is rich in tens and aces helps the player. This is because a blackjack is more prone to appear. Even though both the player and the dealer could get the blackjack, only the player is paid a 50% bonus. Also the player can select if he wants an extra card, whereas the dealer has no choice. A deck rich in high cards makes the dealer more likely to bust.

- Even though the original researchers tried to remember individual cards this proved impossible for a normal human being. In addition it didn′t provide a huge statistical advantage. The “counting” techniques were invented to keep track of general composition of the deck. The movie “Rain Man″ implied that card counters know individual cards when Dustin Hoffman states there are lots an lots of queens left.

- Also in the movie “21″ it implies that card counters win over and over and over. Card counters merely increase their bet when they are more apt to win. They need large bankrolls to take advantage of the statistical advantage and not go broke. Also they might lose for the day. If you take the first shot in Russian Roulette the odds are 6 to 1 in your favor, but sometimes you blow your own head off.

- The original card counting professor from MIT doubled his bankroll of $10,000 (several hundred thousand in today's money). He still needed a mobster to loan him the money. No bank will loan you money to play cards. Also in those days the casinos were mob controlled and they would regularly cheat players. The mobster that loaned the money to the professor knew when to leave the table. The professor made serious money not by counting cards, but when he wrote the book “Beat the Dealer″.

Answer:
In Blackajck, as in the motion picture 21?

Counting cards in blackjack is actually quite simple.

The most comon system is the Hi-Lo count. Start a new shoe with a count of Zero. Assign a value of 1 to 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7, and -1 to tens and aces. Everything else is 0, or neutral. As the cards are played, add or subtract these counts to get the running count. A positive total indicates the deck is rich in tens and aces. Determine the true count by dividing the running count by the number of decks left to be played. The higher the number the superior the remaining cards in the shoe are for the player.

But there’s a lot more to it! Rule variations, money management, basic strategy and knowing how, when and what amount to bet!

Here is a link that explains it all.

And the movie 21 was great, but it is a fictionalized, dramatized version of an incident that happened many years ago, before the rules of the game were changed to prevent it!

Good Luck!

Answer:
There are tons of books on it. Just go to the library or Barnes & Noble.

Also, you should watch the motion picture 21. It is such a great motion picture. It gives you an idea but doesn't show you how to do it exactly. Still, you should watch it. Good luck!
