Answer:
Ok this is the first time I've ever answered one of these questions so I hope i can help.
There are a multitude of poker sites that actually instruct you. These sites have tests and other bonuses.
Playing with play money is strongly not advised the game is not the same at all.
Try an on-line pokerschool. http://www.pokerstrategy.com/uLXXGF
this one will let you learn all forms of poker or just the one you want. I started with NL holdem but have since progressed to small tourneys . its up to you. but this is a great resourse for learning any form of poker you want. trust me you'll enjoy it. I have watched the vidoes used the forum, and most importanly profited from this resourse.
I hope this helps.
but really the play money games are NOT the same as reall money games. use the site, read, learn, practice, review, practice, PROFIT!
Have fun. and see you at the tables.

You might want to purchase a book on the game that provides advice to a new player. SInce you’ve a month before you go, then you’ve plenty of time to read it and to practice.
Here’s a good one: the Texas Holdem Dynamic Point Count Super Strategy. And here’s the link: http://www.thedoverpro.com/texas.htm
Then practice, practice practice!
Here’s a link to a page of Texas Holdem playing strategy: http://www.thedoverpro.com/poker-strateg…
Good luck!

It's a very easy game to learn. However, becoming good at it is an entirely different ball game.
First, learn the poker hands. Without that, you can’t play. You need to remember what beats what. It's pretty much common sense when you consider it. Here's a list of hand rankings:

Once you've got that down, read the basic rules:
http://www.pokerxl.com/howtoplaypoker.ht…
And then the basics of Hold'em:

And then consider some books:

And then pick one of the major sites and practice online for play money:

It's a good idea to try on the web just so you get the rhythm of playing, when it's your turn to act, and stuff like that.
When you play for real, just sit back and relax, only play premium hands. Don't be afraid to fold. Remember that you’re unlikely to be the only newbie at the table.
Answer:
DO NOT PLAY ONLINE!!! That is the worst place to practice.
The on the internet players dont play “real″ poker. You will get some bad habits playing there. Ideal thing to do is read up on some of the books that are out there, and maybe begin a few home games ot get some “Live″ practice.

Go to one of the on-line poker sites and set up a free account. You can practice with “play money”, so it won't cost anything to learn.
